Community Read is a book club for the entire community. We invite book clubs and individual readers to unite in a shared literary experience by reading The Hebrew Teacher this fall.
Celebrated Israeli-born author Maya Arad presents three mesmerizing novellas in her first novel to be translated into English. Readers will meet three Israeli women, each struggling with an unexpected crisis. Ilana, a veteran Hebrew instructor at a Midwestern college, finds herself challenged by a young Hebrew literature professor who doesn’t share her politics. Miriam, while visiting her son in Silicon Valley, finds he’s not as happy as he had previously expressed. And Efrat is struggling to help her young daughter navigate the challenges of middle school and social media. Witness Arad’s masterful portrayal of the complexities of U.S. immigration.
We are offering a Q&A in Hebrew with Maya Arad before the event. If you are interested in attending, select the price level that includes it to access the event. Purchasing a ticket is required to attend the Hebrew Q&A.
Join us at 6:30 PM for a light bites reception! Come on your own or with your book club.
Books purchased as a premium ticket can be picked up at the J’s front desk if you’d like to read ahead of time. If you wish to pick up your book early, please email Marissa Cardona at mcardona@erjcchouston.org.
