2024 Book Festival: R. Derek Black

R. DEREK BLACK
The Klansman’s Son: My Journey from White Nationalism to Antiracism: A Memoir

Thursday, November 14 | 7:30 PM
In conversation with Dr. Michelle Fingeret

R. Derek Black is the son Don Black, who founded the Stormfront online community. His godfather is former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke. In this fascinating memoir, R. Derek Black recounts their upbringing among white supremacist leaders and their subsequent evolution away from hate. With candor and introspection, Black shares the profound personal and ideological challenges they faced, ultimately rejecting the ideology in which they were raised. Black examines the impact of family and community on belief systems and offers a powerful testament to the possibilities of change and the enduring struggle for tolerance and understanding in contemporary society.
