The Celebration Company Quilt Project Opening Reception

Stop by the Zinn Family Boardroom / Art Gallery from October 6 through November 8 and enjoy The Celebration Company Quilt Project, a special collaboration between clients at Celebration Company and Houston-area quilters. Join us for this opening reception on October 15 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM for light bites and refreshments and to celebrate the talented artists at Celebration Company.

The Joan and Stanford Alexander Celebration Company is a Jewish program that provides life skills and meaningful employment to individuals with disabilities who, with joy and purpose, provide services and create products that celebrate the good of life. Their mission is to help adults with cognitive disabilities to acquire the vocational and life skills needed to reach their desired goals. Through digital printing, original paintings made by artists at Celebration Company were turned into the dynamic and colorful fabrics. These fabrics were then cut and sewn by local quilt artists into the quilts you see here.

Quilt artists are divided into two categories: piecers and quilters. In quilting, both piecers and quilters play important roles in the creation of a quilt, but they have distinct responsibilities within the quilting process. The piecer is responsible for assembling the front of the quilt known as the “quilt top.” This involves selecting, cutting, and arranging the fabric pieces into a pleasing design. The quilter then applies decorative stitching to the quilt which both attaches the quilt top to the other layers and provides additional texture and interest to the overall piece. Just as every square plays a crucial role in making a quilt complete and stunning, the brilliant fabric artists from Celebration Company, the piecers and the quilters are all essential in achieving success through collaboration. All proceeds from quilt sales benefit Celebration Company’s Scholarship Fund.
