Fitness Center Guidelines
Fitness Center Rules
- Use of equipment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- All Fitness Center equipment must remain inside the Fitness Center areas.
- Sandals, flip flops, bare feet and sock feet will not be permitted in the Fitness Center.
- Closed-toed shoes are always required when using cardio equipment and walking around the fitness center. Members wishing to perform deadlifts or squats in sock feet on the lifting platforms may do so at their own risk.
- Shirts are always required in the Fitness Center. Any language and graphics on clothing must be family friendly.
- Wipe down all machines, mats and equipment after use and return equipment to its designated space when finished.
- Personal training within the Fitness Center is only permitted by JCC approved trainers.
- Video or photography in the Fitness Center is not permitted without prior approval.
- All weight training should be performed in a controlled safe manner. Excessive noise from dropping, slamming or banging weights is not permitted. JCC staff will determine what is an appropriate level if issues arise.
- The use of chalk is prohibited.
- Weights and bars should not lean up against any equipment, mirrors or walls.
- Collars are recommended for all plate-loaded free weight lifts.
- Be courteous to others and allow people to work in between sets.
- Failure to comply with any of these rules may result in removal from the Fitness Center.
Safety
- If you have questions about how to use any of the fitness equipment, please ask JCC fitness staff members for assistance.
- If there are any issues with the fitness equipment, please see a staff member for assistance.
- The Director of Fitness or JCC staff on duty shall have the final and conclusive authority to enforce all rules and eject any person(s) failing to observe them or otherwise conduct themselves properly.
Personal Conduct
- Avoid phone use while on equipment to avoid injury. Members will be asked by JCC staff to take their phone conversation out to the lobby area if it is deemed too disruptive.
- Members are required to wear headphones or ear buds when listening to their personal music or shows.
- Appropriate language is always required within the fitness center.
- Be aware of your workout space. Try not to block mirrors or workout areas of other members.
Personal Belongings
- Do not leave bags or personal belongings on the gym floor or lying or hanging on equipment. Day use lockers are provided free of charge to members.
- The JCC is not responsible for lost, stolen or broken items.
- No food is allowed in the Fitness Center. All drinks must be in a closed unbreakable container. No glass containers are permitted in the Fitness Center. Please use the common lobby areas to enjoy your meals.
Youth Fitness Center / Group Fitness Guidelines
- Youth 16-17 years old are required to have a signed teen waiver.
- Youth 13-15 years old are required to have a signed teen waiver and must have completed a teen orientation.
- Youth 11-12 years old are required to have a signed teen waiver and must have completed a teen orientation. A parent/guardian is required to always be in the Fitness Center or group fitness studios with this age group.
- Children under 11 years old are not permitted in the fitness center nor the group exercise classes. They can not stay in the Fitness Center, group fitness studios or the outside lobby area while a parent is working out.
